Mother Marianne Cope on Molokai

A stage play especially for high school productions

Mother Marianne Cope

In 1883, Mother Marianne Cope and six other Franciscan Sisters left Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, to serve the lepers in Hawaii, where Father Damien de Veuster had been serving the lepers on Molokai for ten years. Marianne Cope was officially named a saint in 2012.

This play by Steve Dunham represents events in Mother Marianne Cope’s life from the time she was asked to go to Hawaii until her death. Mick Piccuirro, a retired and highly respected high school drama teacher, gave invaluable advice on writing and structuring this play especially for high school productions, but you are welcome to produce it for other venues too.

You may produce this play without charge and reproduce the script as long as you give credit.
